The first time I encountered the name Christa von Heydebrand was in Zeyringer's listing; and yet the composer and violist lived very close to me (namely in Dornach near Basel). She studied still with Carl Flesch. Zeyringer lists already more than 30 works for Viola (up to op.87). Yet her total oeuvre contains about 150 titles; her whole estate is deposited in the archive of the Goetheanum in 4143 Dornach, Switzerland.
As expected, several of her compositions are based on Jewish and Anthroposophic themes. Most of the works are small pieces. In addition to technically modest pieces there are also quite virtuosic works. As an exception I'm listing her works here chronologically ( most of it is clearly dated and provided with opus numbers). Christa von Heydebrand is yet to be discovered.
